Marriage looks wonderfully endearing to the single man or woman who has by no means married, and probably to the divorced individual who hankers for some thing to arrest their longing for companionship or sexual release, but marriage for practically all of us is quite a challenging perform at instances. (And I can say this even as a representative of my wife!). We carry so a lot of ourselves into our marriages – which is each a good and a negative factor.
We bring in expectations of getting ‘met’ by our partners: that they will satisfy us sexually, not commit too much money, not seek out to manage us, that they will want to spend time with us. We also carry in expectations of what our partners should bring to us: their virtues of diligence and moderation and sanctity and kindness – to name just 4. We are disappointed when they don’t measure up to our previously unconscious expectations – that have now become conscious due to our encroaching annoyance.

This partly explains why suddenly with our life partner, we can feel an intensity of feeling powerless, fearful, helpless even though we intellectually know we are not powerless and helpless. The “Timeless” Old Brain The second thing that is important to know about the Old Brain is that is has no concept of time. It knows nothing about years, decades, and schedules. It lives in the “eternal now.”

Successful approaches include, learning proven skills for communication and confiding effectively, resolving misunderstanding and conflict productively, healing old relationship wounds permanently and increasing intimacy successfully.

Our natural desire is to find a pleasurable solution, but most couples don’t know how to recover when they experience relationship problems. Usually they keep doing over and over what they know to do and it doesn’t work.
Find solutions where both people get what they want. Compromise can leave people foaming at the mouth because it can mean that they have to sacrifice what they want to accommodate their partner. Be willing to think outside the box and find new ways forward to accommodate each partner’s wishes.
Finally, marriage conflict will still affect a couple who has put off marriage for several years. But perhaps with the growing up and more time put aside to know each other they will handle the process better.
Stop Divorce Prayers
Chances are that you know at least one person that is divorced. The average person knows at least three people who have been divorced. Yes, the numbers of failed marriages are staggering. Divorce percentage has increased over the years never to go down again. Why can’t people seem to be able to stay married anymore? Are you in need of a cure to marriage conflicts?.
When you can disagree without insisting on getting your own way and give consideration to the other person’s feelings, you’ll be on the path of a peacemaker!. If saving a marriage is your goal, use your differences as the springboard to peacemaking.
Unresolved conflict issues in a marriage are the highest, single most damaging cause of divorce. And the truth is that there is no conflict resolution without character. When all is said and done, the person you met is not the person he/she becomes through the years. Very often crisis in a marriage simply displays the character of the people who are married.
Having a healthy marital relationship means giving up ego and being resolved to solve your particular conflicts. You have to be committed to staying together and working it out. You also have to be objective and look at your relationship as an outsider, so you can see what the real problems may be.
Listen carefully to their response, restate it to them to be certain you both are hearing things the way they were intended. Ask for their feedback on your statements to be certain they understand what you are saying.
If nothing works, it is better to look for an opinion where you feel more comfortable and secure. Saving your marriage requires efforts from both sides, not just from one partner. If the other spouse does not show any effort or interest in building up the relationship, it would become harder to do so.

Our partner can walk out of the room and we can feel a strong fear of rejection or abandonment–even though the intensity makes no sense rationally. We easily interpret our partners through the lenses of past hurts and sensitivities. The biology of the brain, which was designed to keep us alert and alive and safe, also keeps us very sensitive to our Imago Match — our husbands and wives and life partners.
When you do step away from the situation, take time to remember why you love your partner and why you came together in the first place. Be grateful for all the positive aspects of your relationship and your partner. Just this act of conscious gratitude will put you in a more positive frame of mind to begin the healing process.
Their spouse is a mirror reflecting their true CHARACTER. And most people don’t like what they see. Divorce is often found in the backrooms of our characters and the utter dislike of our characters.
Oftentimes, arguments can come from small issues. But before you shrug it off as only “small,” marriage therapists and studies have proven time and again that it’s these minor issues that can be blown out of proportion and cause major fights among married couples that, in worse cases, could end up in divorce.
Not talking, refusing to share or self-disclose, lying, keeping secrets. When I was in graduate school, one of my professors told of an architect who build a secret room in his home and did not tell his wife about it.
Even in the field of psychotherapy where the goal is often to understand and gain some control in regards to emotion, this is outside our choiceful or volitional control. We can learn to manage and understand and learn from our emotions; we cannot control them directly. Our Mid-Brain (the mammalian brain) is in charge of that.
The important thing to understand about the Mid-Brain is that our emotions are not controlled by the conscious, intentional part of our brain (that’s coming next). The old saying, “Emotions have no brains”.
Therefore when something happens “now” that is similar to something that happened years ago as a child, the Old Brain (that controls emotion and reactivity) connects to the prior experience as information about the present event, but does not experience the old experience as “old.” The emotion that was present then is brought into the present experience and we experience the combined emotion of then and now.
Learn to take responsibility and apologize when you have done something that has upset your partner even if you cannot understand why, as this assures them that you care about their feelings. Later on you can get to the bottom of things in order to find a way forward so that this does not occur again.
